Songs feedback

Upon returning to school, I presented two of the four songs I found over the summer break to prepare for my second year A-level media course work. These songs were played in front of my class, and I was given feedback that would aid me in not only choosing the song but also suggesting ideas on how it could be done but also the image of the artist. Blow is this feedback.

1) RUBII

Song: Komorebi

The general consensus among the class was that this is an artist, although some argued it could be band, as the music is more electronic, the on-screen potential band performance would not be worth including due to the simple backing that sounds as if it was made on a computer.

As a class we all agreed that this song is highly castable as the voice could be played by a rage of people and the artists image is not apparent through the music, therefore there would be many options for casting within the school as most girls who fit the genre conventions and stereotypes to an extend could easily pull this off.

The genre of the music was hard to pinpoint with different suggestions coming from my peers. The general feel was a low-fi type alternative genre almost in its own category. We agreed that it was a good song to do for this project, although due to the slow and repetitive pace of it, there would have to be visually pleasing aspects to the video and almost have an entire concept build around the song build into the video that would keep the audience interested.

Conventions predicted and visualised by the class where a general feel that the video would have to be very colourful and although you would see the artist you would not necessarily see her clearly especially her face, this would add a mysterious element to her as is not shown clearly. We also agreed that she would give an effortless and almost ‘board’ performance with a little bit of a sexual aspect to it as the tone of her voice conveys these connotations.

4) Heavy Metal Kids

Song: HIT THE RIGHT BUTTON

After this song played to the class everyone agreed that it was a band, we also agreed that it would be castable although the actors would have to be able to play instruments as well as look on the older side of the year group as a baby-faced lead singer may go along with the band name but would not convey the right idea to the audience.

It was decided that this was a very good choose for a first-time band that I would be creating and releasing to the world. This is because there are lots of different directions that it could be taken this gives lots of room for creativity and creating a marketing campaign that would sell this band.

It was expected that you would see the instruments being played as well as things such as skulls and lights potentially smoke. I good point that was discussed was to keep in mind that this band is not just your 3-man band as when listening to the song you can hear many different aspects. This would make it more of a challenge as you have more people on screen and it could limit me in some way. originally it was thought to have around seven members but through further research as can be seen above there are only five members but is still a large band.

The image of the band is typical rock, that has a cool and effortless feel to it without being too aggressive and violent as other ‘heavy metal’ is like (even if their name is heavy metal kids). They would be chilled with a calming vibe to them that would I feel in the current market has to potential to sell.
