Development of Idea

As my group and I continued through the pre-production process our idea was slightly altered. Upon discussion with our teacher Mike and another media staff member who would be assisting us on the shoot day. This was more of reality Check as our very vast and complex idea was evaluated to see what was possible for us to achieve.

We looked at what physical limitations the studio brings us and how we can incorporate different elements of our idea into it. Our idea if having multiple combined spaces and the band moving through them would be hard to do not only because of limited space to build all of these small sets but also because they would be hard to film as there would only be ½ openings available in the sets to shoot out of. Furthermore, as we wanted to have a continuous theme of movement with the band constantly moving through areas it may not be worth it as these sets will only be shown for brief parts of the video and due to this the narrative, we are trying to get across may not be shown to the audience.

We then decided that we wanted to still have this theme of movement, this also goes along with the song as in parts and in some ways throughout, the song sounds very jumpy and nervous. This meant that we had many different routes in which to take this video as we could potentially have them running away from something. We then came onto the idea that we could use single frame photos taken in motion and string them together to form a single frame like effect in the jumpy bits of the song and that we could potentially use a location that has an urban feel such as Guildford (local to the school). This would match the song very well as well as add some different elements to the video that are not just small, confined dark/black rooms.

We then looked into what to do with the main sets. Now that we had added a new element to the video being the single frame stuff, there was less pressure on the studio sets to be the main aspect of the video. Therefore, we got rid of some of the small rooms and decided to have a smaller number of rooms. Although these choices are not yet confirmed but we wanted to have a main prominent performance space that almost looks like a live performance and we could then add flats to this and create a small room (potentially the low ceiling room), this simple adjustment saves space and makes our shoot more efficient. We then wanted to have a narrow corridor with a door at the end of it. The band would not only walk through but also perform in this space and the door could be used to merge into other sets and carry the whole video together. Finally, the last studio build set that we wanted to add was the tunnel, this would be a space for band members to crawl or roll through potentially in the guitar solo of the video or other aspects. This combined with the single frame shots on location we thought would make a very good idea and could turn into an interesting video.
