Feedback from set designs

In our meeting we met with the set designer who would order and help us build our desired set for our shoot day. We showed her the 4 different sets we had in mind as we talked/planned how we would build then and fit them within the studio.

We started with the concept of confinement as we wanted to have a small room with low ceilings with the band crammed in there. It was suggested that this would be not only a challenge to fir the band in there especially with the drum kit, but also it will be very hard to light and film as there will only really be 1 side to shoot from. This led us to change to idea and use a set with walls and use light and camera tricks to create the illusion of low ceilings. Moreover, instead of having two sets one for main performance and the other for the confinement space, we can combine the two and use flats and move them in to create the confinement this saves space and materials at it makes the set more efficient it will also save time as the flats can just be moved into place.

We then discussed the tunnel that the lead singer and guitarist would we rolled through on their back, we discussed how we would film through it and concluded that we would use a bar like structure on the top and film over the top. Alternatively, we could use a film on the side and back light it for a silhouette shot. We also decided that it would need to wide enough for a guitar so this gave the set designer a good idea of what it would be.

We then discussed what the flour would look like, more specifically in the corridor set with the door, we as a group had not thought about this as it was said to be very important to look of the shots as well as the effect it would have on the lighting and therefore the whole feel of the music video. We went away from the meeting and discussed this and decided that we wanted a glossy white floor not only for the corridor but for the floor of the whole music video within the in-studio shots.

As we had very little props apart from instruments and amps etc, we didn’t need any specific parts for the set such as sofas etc. This made our set design a bit simpler than it would have been if we had a very detailed and complex set. All aspects were said to be no problem and the set designers as well as the media staff assisting us said that everything would work fine, and set would not be a problem.
