Feedback from Treatment
In our Monday morning lesson, my group and I presented out treatment to the class and our teacher as well as Luke who is our production teacher. As we are in a group of four we split our group in two, Anna and I did the first song and Neave and Florance did the second.
I know you Know
The main performance aspect of our treatment being the Office cubicles was said to be difficult and expensive to do as if we where going to make an office within the studio it would look very fake and not give the same experience to the audience that we intended. One alternative was too find an actual office we could shoot in as not many of them are being used due to COVID-19. This would be expensive and would limit other aspects of the video as travel time etc would take time, we would also not have complete freedom within the rented office.
One of the main concepts of are idea, being that the drummer was going to play with pencils and other office equipment as the song plays in, it would then cut to the band in a more intense performance room as the drums come in. This idea was praised but also was suggested that it is such a small part of the videos and would probably only last 5 seconds.
It was suggested that maybe an office is not the right place for the video as they are not creative places and are draining and dull, although the idea seems like it would work in reality the video may not present the narrative in the right way. It was suggested that there are other more subtle and easer to do things that would still present the same narrative.
Hey Hey
We were instructed that it would be very hard to make a 70’s club look like a club as it is the people and what they are wearing that not only create the atmosphere but also its nearly impossible to make the TV- studio (where we would be filming) look like a nightclub without actually going to one and filling it with extras.
The singer of the song sounds very old, this might cause a problem when casting as we are a college of 16-18 year olds and to cast someone that looks in maybe their 30-40’s will be nearly impossible and could harm the look of the whole video as casting is really what makes or breaks the video.
The song was enjoyed it is very catchy, almost like a pub rock band. The idea of the 70’s set and dancing elements are good, the costume and casting would be where this song would be made or broken. The slow motion aspects where enjoyed as it plays into the 70’s billy Elliot style.
To conclude we decided to choose the first song (I know you know) as we feel casting for the second song could put the whole project at risk and that we all enjoyed the first song and had ideas about how we could add elements into the video.
