Development of idea

From our full treatment our idea has changed, instead of using an office we have moved to a concept of small rooms playing with confined space and tunnels etc. The video will start on a main performance with a dark back drop and white flashing lights in a stage like feel. We also wanted to have a single frame stop motion sections of the band moving through locations in our local town of Guildford. We will use around 5 location and use photos put together in order to create a hectic and nervous vibe that the song reflects. We then want to play with confined space for example with low ceilings and multiple rooms with potential light being the connecter through a grated manhole cover like opening that connects the room as they are placed in different places in the rooms corresponding with each other suggesting the idea that the rooms are connected. Below are some photos the grilled light we effect we are experimenting with in order to connect the rooms with light.

Below is what the low ceilings will look like:

The idea is to play with space, as the video takes a course of the band moving around as the dingle frame location sections suggest. We want to play with idea that the band are almost lost somewhere and can’t find their way as well as the idea they are trapped in an almost labyrinth. We also would like to have a corridor that will lead to a door leading into one of these rooms, this will be black just like the majority of the video will be. The corridor will be able to be moved in and out in order to make it narrower and wider, this means for many different shots we can adjust the size of the space in order to go along without concept of space. Below are some examples of the corridor:

We also want to have a main performance space that does not have any confined elements to it. This will give the a live performance effect as it's just the band simply playing with the same lights from through the video. This goes along with the genre conventions of Indie/rock as they are much more concerned about the music then all of the other elements to the video, this will be reflected in the narrative elements as they will be clearly preforming although all this other stuff is occurring around them. The normal performance element also helps to sell the band as a live performance as ultimately this is the goal, to sell the experience of the band's music instead of the band members themselves.

This idea has developed a lot from our original treatment, but in order to get it ready for production there are certain things that as a group we need to figure out and plan before the idea is solid for pre-production. We have split up these tasks in developing our idea before we move forward with the pre-production process.

I will be in charge of coming up with ideas of what the cast will be doing in the sets on the studio.

Neave is in charge of going out and gathering locations that we could potentially use for the out of studio single frame sections of the music video.

Anna and Florence will be in charge of what the band will be doing on location, I.E their feet running past the camera ETC.

These will help us to be more ready on the day for the individual sections as we will need many ideas try on the day as to say the band preforming is very simple and will look stage on the day therefore we need example actions for the cast to do.

My task:

  • Looking at each other

  • Focused at drummer

  • Kicking the air

  • Arms swing on guitar

  • Head bopping

  • Foot stamping

  • Detaching microphone from stand/re-attaching

  • Interacting with confined space.

  • Over exaggerated arm movements

  • Facial expressions

  • Swirling drum sticks

  • Hair flipping (if long hair)

  • Interacting with camera

  • genral life performance behaviour
