Lighting meeting reflection

We met with the lighting designer as a group to discuss how we want to light the music video. I was absent from this meeting as I has off sick, but the other members of my group attended the meeting. This allowed us to plan for the shoot as well as look further into how we want the video to look in a more real sense with imagery.

We wanted the video to have dark and mysterious undertones with mostly white and light/orange stage light like lights to give the illusion of a live performance we also wanted some of these lights to be spotlights to further suggest this. This presented a rather simple lighting set up. For the intense parts of the song that come around every 30-40 seconds we would like strobe to add energy to the video and match the energy of the song. We discussed different types of strobes and discussed potential problems with the strobe.

With strobe there is an issue that of the rate of strobe does not perfectly match the frame rate of the camera then it will not be shown properly on the camera when we look at the shot. But this was a risk that we were willing to take as we want that stressful hectic look of the strobe in those selected parts of the video. We then decided the main strobe will be at a backlit position behind the drummer as this will make a very nice strobe shot as it will look this the whole set is being lit and the band members will pop more are the light comes from behind them.

We discussed any colour we would like to add to the shots potentially in some aspects of the video, we as a group thought that maybe elements of blue/purple in some parts could work and play to the indie side of the indie/rock band. But we wanted to tackle when and where we put that on the day when we can see all the band together on set.
