How Do Record Labels Find New Artists?

 How are artists and/or bands signed? 

 

Record labels use A&R executives (artist and repertoire) to scout new talent that the label may be interested in signing and boosting their career in the hopes of a return, such as a commodity. A&R executive’s used to go out yo bars and clubs in different citys and scout artists and groups, on their live shows, as there idea was that it was not nessasary the talne tof the artist but there ethos and presence on stage that could perhalps dictate their success. This is party the reason why some people make it in the music industry and other don’t, as there is no shortage of extreamly talnted musicians. More recently the role of an A&R executives has. hanged as their job envolves less going out and discovering acts, but looking at analitical data and seeing where the trends are going aswell as how people are expected to do in the rest of their career. This new age of less personal based music discovery  has effected the artists as in the past labels would pick up artists and aid them in the career aswell as their image, in oppose to nowadays where most artist have an image had labels are less based on the act and more the trends, data and profits. 

 

 

I think that if someone wanted to be succsesfull now in the music industry, the most important thing is relatability with the audience, there is so much music available now aswell as it being readly accessible for consumers, artists need to stand out and one way of doing this is having them relate to people and/or their music be relatable. Secondly depending on the type of music they do, they would have to have a decent talent ability in their field. Moreover unfortunately in the current world climate appearnce has a lot to do with success, thus they would most likely have to be good looking as this attracts more fans and in some cases could help acts go viral as almost ‘celebrity crushes’. 

 

Below is a new fairy undisocverd song, that I feel is an example of how you can have talent and not make it in the music industry, I feel that for my music campain an artist such as the one below would work welll as they have no pre-existing image therefore the image I would create upon lauching their album would be soaly a reflection of their music.
